To those of you who are just starting your classes here at Ross, "Welcome to Ann Arbor!" To those of you who are returning, "Welcome back!"
The Office of Career Development (OCD) career counseling staff has grown over the summer. In addition to over 50 peer counselors, we are pleased to have four staff counselors available to counsel students this year. All of our counselors are ready to offer a full series of career-related workshops and resources during the upcoming recruiting season. In addition, the corporate relations group has also made some staff changes and is anxious to continue their good work with the recruiters and with the clubs. Please refer to the Student Career Services website for a complete listing of staff and their bios. Career Counseling Staff When combined with our nearly fifty peer counselors, there will be ample and dedicated career counseling availability for students. The career counseling team has been restructured to have broad career counseling oversight and career curriculum design of an entire degree group. In addition, each of the counselors will have liaison responsibility for student clubs. The staff is structured as follows:
- Carlos Pierre: Day MBA degree career curriculum, marketing.
- Gwyneth Slocum Bailey: BBA degree career curriculum, financial services (investment banking, corporate finance, etc.).
- Leslie Mulder: International students, MAcc, MSCM, corporate social responsibility, general management, operations management, strategic planning.
- Pyper Alpern: EVE MBA, consulting, human resources.
Corporate Relations Staff The corporate relations team has also gone through some changes this summer. We welcome the teams newest members, Lisa Kozlo and Gina Villella. The staff services the on-campus recruiter relationships as follows:
- Lisa Kozlo: advertising, consumer goods/brand, entertainment, healthcare products/devices, pharmaceutical/biotechnology.
- Gina Villella (who succeeds Pyper Alpern): automotive, energy, high-tech, computer, telecommunications, transportation.
- Cindy Cantrell: accounting, consulting, education, government, non-profit.
- Dwana Jones: real estate, financial services.
2008 Results We experienced another great year for the graduating class of 2008 in their career searches. At graduation, 89% of the graduating MBA class had received an offer of employment. While that figure is down slightly from the "best-ever" recruiting year of 2007, it still ranks as a very good year for Ross MBA grads. At graduation, 93% of the graduating BBA class had received an offer of employment. This figure was up slightly from the recruiting year of 2007.
Fall 2008 Schedules As we peer into the future, the number of MBA full-time schedules confirmed for on-campus interviews as of 8/21 remains solid at 478. We finished last year with 472 schedules interviewed. The number of BBA full-time schedules confirmed for on-campus interviews as of 8/21 also remains solid at 335. We finished last year with 265 schedules interviewed. These figures typically continue to both fall and rise over the course of the fall as some companies reduce schedules in reaction to intern offer results and others increase schedules throughout the year.
Other than the banks holding back a bit and not reserving schedules, most other industry segments remain strong. They have been telling us that they see their hiring plans to be in line with last year's strong year. Schedules have largely been confirmed in iMpact and can be reviewed at your convenience as you plan your fall interview strategies.
Not Returning to Your Internship Employer? After their summer internships, it is fairly typical that some students decide to pursue a full-time position in an entirely different field or do not receive an offer for full-time employment. To help you manage the many questions in this regard and address this topic with recruiters, plan to join Al Cotrone, Director of Career Development and Student Affairs this Thursday, September 4th, Room E1530 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
MBA2 Fall Recruiting Forum and Outlook September 7th As a reminder, our MBA2 Fall Recruiting Forum and Outlook will be held on Sunday, September 7th, in Lorch Hall from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. We will plan to gather and share information from your summer experiences and be sure that we all have the best possible information to strategize for this fall's career search cycle.
The entire OCD team is committed to helping every Ross student succeed with his or her job search strategy. Please stop by K2336 (located within Kresge Library) to say hello and make a personal connection with the staff.
