Response to Question of the Week: CoursePacks

Thank you for asking the question of the week regarding course packs (MSJ, 12 Nov 2001). We trust that the low response (fewer than twelve) indicates that for most students, we have improved the course pack process. As we continue to look for enhancements, just a few quick reminders: eCoursePack bundles electronic versions of articles and cases. Through our vendor partner, Study.net, students pay only for copyrighted material such as Harvard cases and reprints, plus minimal administrative fees to access our electronic files in Kresge Library.

Using eCoursePack, students can choose to read articles on line from anywhere, or may request a TextPak. This is a paper version of the entire eCoursePack, and is shipped directly to the student's address. TextPaks may be ordered at any time during the term, and in most cases, this cost will be less than the former tCoursePacks.

We are actively encouraging faculty to increase use of eCoursePacks. Because these are linked to your class site through CourseTools, faculty can use the articles in other capacities within Course Tools, such as the schedule or assignment features.

Note that CourseTools currently lists articles only in alphabetical order in the "Resource" folder. Because Study.net pulls from this folder, it currently can only provide TextPaks in alpha order. We are working with the Media Union to resolve this, so that CourseTools provides the resources in syllabus order. At that point, the TextPak will also be in syllabus order.

tCoursePacks (traditional course packs) are all ordered online, for pick up in the Kresge Library or delivery (for a fee) to a home address.

Only students enrolled in a class should order tCoursePacks. Any refunds require proof of course registration prior to purchase, as well as proof that the course has been dropped.

Questions regarding eCoursePacks or tCoursePacks can be forwarded to teachingsupport@umich.edu.
