Many members of Michigan Business Women (MBW) are actually supporting Barack Obama in the upcoming 2008 presidential election. Last Friday, both the undergraduate and the graduate chapter of Michigan Business Women held a conference in discussion of their supporting efforts in this year's election. A little more than half of the 312 member of MBW attended this event.

The purpose of last Friday's conference is two-folds: to increase awareness of women's role in the election and to encourage further support for Presidential Candidate Hilary Clinton. At the conference, MBW will lead initiatives in discussing the role of women in today's society and the impact of a possible female president of the US. Such action will be a dramatic act of inspiration to not only women in our country but throughout the world. "We want to bring awareness to every female student - to tell them that they can help support the breakthrough of changing the very perception of the women's role in this country," says the current president of Michigan Business Women's MBA chapter.

The conference was organized in a way that left an open discussion to bring forward each member's political stance on the election. However, despite the ongoing effort to help support Hillary, many female members did not believe in the pursuit of such purpose. Surprisingly, a majority of them favored Presidential Candidate Barrack Obama and spoke in support of the Illinois Senator during the conference. This may be largely due to his influential and charismatic nature as well as his powerful promise of changing our nation.

Many members believed in Senator Obama's genuine purpose of reinvigorating our country with hope and change. "Mr. Barack Obama is wise and smart. He is a very well educated man and he has the ability to bring Americans together for a higher purpose," said Emily Freedman, BBA 08.

Other members disengage the notion of gender and race in election and supported Senator Obama on behalf of his talents and credentials. "We don't care whether this country has a black or woman president. We want a president who will bring change to our country," said Vanessa Wang, BBA 09.

Although MBA members of MBW are believed to be more inclined of supporting of Hillary, a good portion of them spoke against the presidential hopeful. These members openly discussed Hillary's controversial false claims of dodging sniper-fire in Bosnia in service for her country.

"I am sorry to say this but Hillary outright lied about the whole incident, and now she is obligated to bear this public shame," said Daphne Kowalski, MBA 08. "I hope this is a mistake, but I truly felt betrayed by such an act."

Other MBA members joked around about Hillary's action after the conference. "No one can lie like the Clintons," said Erica Graham, MBA 09, with a slight chuckle. "I guess her husband really had an influence on her."

Overall, the entire conference brought more questions than answers. What MBW hoped to achieve in support of women's initiative seems to be a continual struggle, as Hillary keeps hurting her chances of winning with outspoken lies. On the flip side, it has seemed that women at Ross have completely ignored the women's rights initiative and instead embraced the words of the handsomely charming Barrack Obama.

So, here lies the question of why. Maybe the Ross School of Business influenced women to engage in a gender-bias-free environment. Maybe, the women at Ross lost their hope for Hillary. Or just maybe, some of women at Ross have truly turned into "Obama Girls."
