On the weekend of February 23-24, Austin received us nice and warm to celebrate the 2008 Winter Classic Soccer Tournament at the McCombs School of Business, a tournament which gathers 24 teams from the best MBA programs in the country. The Ross School of Business Soccer Team went with confidence, supported by its recent championship in the open indoor tournament at Wild World Sport Center (see picture A).
Our group consisted of Harvard Alumni, NYU, and McCombs. Pretty tough, considering that Harvard had won the tournament several times, NYU was head of the group thanks to the performance they had in a recent tournament at UCLA, and McCombs had the advantage of being the local team.

Results for us did not show our true selves: we lost 2-1 against the eventual champions Harvard, lost 1-0 against NYU (made it to the semifinals), and tied 0-0 against McCombs. We were thinking, "Where is the indoor court!" Truth to be told, though, we played tough, partied tough and had a BLAST!

Participants:

Joe Digirolamo - MBA1 - Captain/Defender

"The Ross soccer club may not have won the athletic competition, but the Ross soccer club took down $995 of the $1600 tab at the bar thanks to the almighty Irish car bomb. In anyone's book, that's a W."
Daniel Garcia - MBA2 - #1 supporter
"Austin, with its lakes, food, music, beautiful people, weather, and nightlife, is so incredible that I decided to live there after only 2 nights!"

Steve Hughes - MBA2 - Midfielder

"The experience really brought out everyone's true self. By getting a chance to see people outside the classroom and engaged in sport, you really get to know who the person is and what they are made of… and as for the nightlife, what happens in Austin, stays in Austin!"
