7:00 p.m. | PALIO | downtown

In the inaugural BBA-MBA edition of Match Maker, two worlds collide. Is Kresge hand-holding for these two in the future?

Kevin: I arrived early so she wouldn't have to wait by herself. It's the right thing to do. Plus, I figured I could do some pre-gaming at the restaurant bar and calm the nerves. Apparently, Palio doesn't think a restaurant bar is a good idea. What restaurant doesn't have a bar? Seriously.

Julia: When I walked in the door, I spotted Kevin right away. He had a nice smile and seemed very outgoing. I was a little confused, though, because I was told I was meeting someone with a first name beginning with "R."

Kevin: I was a last-minute substitution as Hutchins felt that this date fell outside his responsibilities as undergraduate liaison. I told Julia she could call me Rick if it made her more comfortable. She said Kevin would be fine.

Julia: The date was very casual from the start. I was relaxed, but kind of excited. First blind date ever!

Kevin: She seemed a little nervous and reserved at the outset. Perhaps that's because it was her first blind date. Anyway, I started to wear her down with my charm and intellect. Talking about her solar car team and upcoming international competitions really loosened her up.

Julia: Kevin is so fun. And really sincere. We talked about everything. School. Internships. Sports. Extracurriculars. Trashy TV. Solar car international competitions.

Kevin: We really connected over our mutual love for trashy television, especially Beauty and the Geek. I told her that she reminded me of "tanning salon administrator" Brittany from season two.

Julia: The fact that Kevin was as obsessed with Beauty and the Geek as I am was a huge turn-on. He reminded me of "owns 25,000 comics" Mario from season three. He blushed and was visibly flattered when I told him. I would be thrilled if we ended up together, beauty and a geek.

Kevin: She could be a geek to my beauty any
time.

Julia: When the food arrived, it was hard to get bites in because our conversation was going so well. I couldn't believe that we had so much to talk about. It was so fun!

Kevin: She ordered the pesto noodles and said they were delicious. I ordered the steak. You give me a gift certificate and expect me to order a salad? Come on. Be real.

Julia: Our waiter was crazy. He was strangely outgoing and hilarious. He totally reminded me of "singer: star wars band" Nate from season three. Exactly like him.

Kevin: Our waiter was a bit weird. And the water boys refilled our glasses every two minutes. It was almost as if they were driving home the fact that she was underage. I got a dirty look every time I ordered another beer.

Julia: We were having fun so we decided to order dessert. I ordered the Tiramisu because Nate recommended it. Kevin had the carrot cake and shared some with me. It was amazing. Both the cake and the moment.

Kevin: Once we finished dessert, I offered to drive her home. It's the right thing to do. I couldn't believe she walked all that way in the cold for our date.

Julia: It was so sweet of Kevin to drive me home. When we pulled up to my place, he gave me a hug, asked me for my number, and said we should hang out when he gets back from MAP, maybe watch Beauty and the Geek together. He sure knows the way to this girl's heart.

Kevin: I gave her a hug and asked for her digits. Off to Arkansas and the wonderful world of Wal-Mart!

LOVE METER: ROCK THE CRADLE OF LOVE

Julia: 5 out of 5. It was really fun and something new. Never been on a blind date before. Glad I went and would definitely go out with Kevin again.

Kevin: 5 out of 5. She's a really sweet girl and we had a good time. I would go out with Julia again.
