This week's question has to do with the 2004 Class Gift Campaign. Each year, members of the graduating class organize a campaign for the purpose of presenting a gift to the Business School. Through this effort, the Class of 2004 will join the other alumni in making a pledge of financial support to ensure the school's future strength. This will mark the 24th year of a tradition that has raised a total of over $2 million, which in recent years has helped fund the creation of new study rooms and the renovation of the student lounge. This year, the graduates have the opportunity to raise the bar for student giving.
Question of the Week:
What are your ideas for how to invest $250,000 in the Business School?
I think the business school should have a gym and a business center with phones, faxes, mailing services, etc. And, as a small bonus, I think there should be something of a Dominick's outside in the Portico that serves Pancheros burritos.
Beverly Kline, MBA2
How 'bout a stapler that actually works in the computing lab?
Salim Syed, BBA2
Though not a glamorous gift, one that will be appreciated:
White boards instead of blackboards for all class rooms for the benefit of both professors and students. Allows multicolor drawing not just white on black, great for economics, accounting, and corporate strategy.
A few flagship rooms could also have whiteboards that can make a printout afterward. This is good for meeting minutes or info made in class that the professor wants the students to have verbatim.
Edward McCall, Evening MBA
I think a great way to start would be by redoing the copy room in the library. That place has caused way too many headaches in my short time here. We need new, hi-tech machines (that work!) and debit cards.
I also fully support adding a coffee bar/lounge area on the 3rd floor of the library!
Christine Galofr, MBA2
Mmm, very interesting topic. I think before asking students to donate more money, the school should first understand their concerns. It has struck me so much that we don't even have an annual student satisfaction survey, despite that we are one of the best marketing schools in the world.
