I hope you've noticed something new on the Business School's home page - Michigan Views. In this new section of the website, we want to give you chance to see, review, and even savor some of the activities and ideas lighting up the School.
What is Michigan Views? Think of it as a visual "editorials page" for the School. Like the "Week in Review" section of the Sunday New York Times, Michigan Views will try to capture a sense of what went on in the world the past week or so - our world, at the Business School. Big events will make it to Michigan Views - like keynote speakers' talks at FuturTech or the Asia Business Conference. So will big ideas - like the way C.K. Prahalad and his XMAP students documented and analyzed emerging business practices in parts of the world they refer to as the economic "bottom of the pyramid."
Michigan Views will let you see these exciting occurrences. And it will let you view what people are thinking, saying, and feeling about what's going on here, as well. Michigan Views captured Dr. Greg Stone, Director of Occupational Health and Safety at Ford, discussing how Ford Motor Company of South Africa took aggressive steps to improve AIDS/HIV awareness, prevention, and treatment for all its employees. Along with Dr. Stone's presentation, you can view students' reactions to it -BBA and MBA (day and evening students), and you can watch a Q&A session where Prof. Jerry Davis asked Dr. Stone in detail about the Ford AIDS/HIV effort. Or watch the video documentaries that Professor Prahalad's students created, which were shown to Kofi Annan and others through the United Nations Development Program. Then watch students explain how their experiences in the course and at the bottom of the pyramid affected them personally.
What events will we capture on Michigan Views? Many "major events" but many others, too, that together create a collage of the curiosity, passion, and intellectual vibrancy within the School.
We want Michigan Views not only to show the School, but also to be a part of the School. When you attend an event being captured on video, look for our camera crew after the event, who will be there to let you express your opinion. Is there a business related issue, story, person, or event you'd like to see explored on our website? We welcome your thoughts about what should come "into view." We'll even loan you a video camera and teach you how to shoot and edit a short piece that becomes a View, which you share with the MBS community. (It's easy, fun, and lets you create.)
So, grab a cup of coffee and click your way through this new section on the School's home page. See what's going on and consider adding your own Michigan Views.
